Shooting for the “A Mission to Heal” medical television show wrapped with two days of studio shooting in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The 30-minute programs, presented by Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, were hosted by Medical Reporter Charna Wiese. The three new programs featured information on heart research and had doctor guests along with patients in-studio. Video packages with each patient’s story were shot over a 6 week period in South Florida previous to studio taping and rolled into the show.

The first series of three shows produced Fall of 2010 featured a live audience, but for this new series the audience was dropped.

“The logistics of gathering a decent size audience of volunteers was just too much for the return we got for production value,” said Mark Greenwald, TCG’s Senior Producer and the show’s producer.”We decided to shoot this set of shows without audience and then see if we like the show with or without.”

The Crawford Group, working with Brown, Parker & DeMarinis advertising, provided all elements of the production including scriptwriting, content development, set construction, production and post. The first show is set to air April 7 with a new show airing each of the coming weeks.

“Next up- post. Here we go…” said Mark.

Chad Crawford and his dedicated film crew are on the road across Florida for the next 16 weeks shooting the next season of “how to Do florida,” a syndicated weekly TV show produced by TCG.

Productions are planned in most regions of the state as the show discovers outdoor adventures unique to Florida, and shows viewers how to do them.

“It’s a bit of a challenge to shoot in the winter months and early spring,” said Chad Crawford, the show’s creator and host. “Especially the water activities this time of year. But hey where else can you shoot beach, swimming and fishing in winter. That’s why we love Florida.”

Some of the content planned for this year’s run of 13 original episodes are paddleboarding, crabbing, bass fishing, sandcastle building and kayak camping.

TCG has signed a major contract for the production of a large package of medical marketing videos to promote physicians and services at Celebration Hospital. The project for the Florida Hospital facility in Celebration, Florida will take about a year to complete.

This project marks another strong move for the company in the medical video market. Three 30-minute episodes of a broadcast show for Holy Cross Hospital were completed fall of 2010, along with several broadcast commercials for Celebration Health over the summer.

“Medical video work takes some extra care and steps in project management and execution,” said TCG Creative Director Chad Crawford. “We’re getting pretty good at it.”

“The Crawford Group are fantastic to work with,” said Patrick de la Roza, Director of Interactive Marketing for Florida Hospital. “They provide creativity, strategic direction and never miss a deadline. They are fun to work with and also always produce a top quality product.”

Production on the project will begin immediately, with first shooting planned for Mid-March.

It’s become an annual event here at TCG: for the third year in a row we’ve
produced the national broadcast of the Orlando Citrus Parade. The event is a 2.5
hour parade spectacular that runs through downtown Orlando and features floats
made out of citrus fruit. TCG crews record the event with 6 cameras, and then
pull an all-night edit session to take the footage and edit it down to a one-hour
show complete with commercials.

“It’s a great way to end the year- we get the best seats in the house for the event
and get to live it again and again in the edit bays,” said Chad Crawford, TCG
Creative Director, who also directs the show.

The project actually starts months ahead of time with the production of
promotional spots, creative and graphic conceptualization. Several shoots are
held before the parade that record events leading up to the festivities as part of
the Capital One and Champs Bowl college football bowls games here in Orlando.

This year’s video crew of over 30 captured the event on December 30. The
weather cooperated and the parade and production went smoothly. TV hosts this
year for the show were Giulianna and Bill Rancic from the reality show Giulianna
and Bill. Their charm and professionalism really came across on-camera.

Post went all night and our dedicated crew hit the deadline, with the show went
up on satellite the next day to stations all across the US and a few on Canada.

“The turnaround time for the show is tight, but hey- we love the adrenaline rush,
and the coffee and Red Bull flow all night,” said Mark Greenwald, TCG Senior
Producer and the parade’s producer. ”What better way to ring in the New Year.”

The Crawford Group has won a 2010 Telly Award for the 2009 Orlando Citrus
Parade broadcast.

The Telly Awards is an annual national awards competition that honors the very

best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as
the finest video and film productions, and work created for the Web.

The Orlando Citrus Parade show was a one-hour TV special that is shot live-to-
tape during the annual parade in downtown Orlando on Dec. 30th, and featured
pre-produced segments shot early in December as well. The show was hosted
by singer/ dancer Joey Fatone, formerly with ‘N Sync, along with dancer Cheryl
Burke, two-time champion of “Dancing with the Stars”. It was shown in 123
markets nationwide

“We would like to congratulate The Crawford Group on a wonderful job producing
the 2009 Orlando Citrus Parade,” said Shaun Rooney, Florida Citrus Sports
Events Manager and Parade Director. “We hired The Crawford Group in 2008
to increase the quality and aesthetic of the broadcast. They delivered on
their product by demonstrating a commitment to excellence and detail while
continually creating new and fresh ideas to keep the show exciting.”

Producing the show involves a crew of 35 for the two-hour live-event recording
through a mobile TV production truck. Five cameras are switched live and a 6th
ENG camera roves to capture segments with an “on the street” reporter, who this
year was Shawn Johnson, 2008 Olympic Gymnastics Champion. The content is
edited overnight into a one-hour show complete with commercials, which is up-
linked by satellite to subscribing stations the next day. The 2009 show was the
second parade The Crawford Group has produced for Florida Citrus Sports.

“The citrus parade is a project we look forward to every year,” said TCG’s TV
Producer Mark Greenwald. “It’s a challenging production, but when everything
comes together and the show goes out the door and we sit back and watch it
with our families, it’s a great sense of accomplishment.”

Production is currently underway for the 2010 parade that will be hosted by
reality TV stars Bill and Giuliana Rancic.

company

It’s been almost 5 years now that 3-D or stereoscopic vision has been creeping into our movie theaters. Beowulf, directed by Robert Zemeckis, was one of the big 3-D movies released back in 2007 and it’s success has convinced Hollywood to release more movies in 3-D.

This past summer, the 3-D craze hit the big box stores with 3-D televisions. Sound great and all until you learn you have to wear those same goofy glasses to the watch the TV as you do to watch the movie in the theatre. It’s my opinion that the 3-D craze is great for the cinema, but not the family room. A couple reasons why:
1. How awkward would it be to invite friends over to watch a movie, but not have enough glasses for everyone to watch the movie? Does everyone now have to buy a set of 3-D TV glasses so incase they go over to their friends house for the Super Bowl, they can ensure that they will in fact be able to watch the game?
2. How about people who wear prescription glasses? Do they always have to wear their 3-D glasses over the prescription glasses?
3. Believe it or not, you are losing resolution when viewing a picture in 3-D. Stereoscopic visions works by splitting the image into 2, which is why it is blurry when viewed with the naked eye. The 3-D images are polarized to different degrees, and the glasses help to interpret that. But by splitting the image in 2, you cut the number of lines of resolution at 1080p in half. 540 lines of resolution for each eye! Ugh!!

Toshiba has announced that they have cracked the problem of 3-D TV without glasses, and they will begin selling those TV’s in 20 inch sizes soon. But be warned; they are the most expensive TV’s you could buy. And the larger the screen size, the more difficult it is to make the TV.

If that’s the case, regular 2-D TV is just fine with me. Just give me HD 1080P on a 55″ LCD TV and you’ll have one satisfied customer.

The show got an overall 1.4 rating and is being hailed as a big success by the client, ad agency and TV station. During the show, a live-web chat session was promoted as available after the program, to which 30 people attended. The show was produced and developed by The Crawford Group in association with Brown Parker & DeMarinis Advertising. TV station executives say the rating is very impressive, particularly for a first time show going up against daily news programs, popular syndication and Wheel of Fortune.
It’s amazing how much work goes into video games these days. Do you remember Asteroids from Atari? Even though that particular game is older than myself I still remember playing it all the time on my dad’s computer when I was a kid. I don’t really play video games anymore, but I do respect the art direction, graphic design, animation, etc. that are created for these entertainment systems. One of the best examples that I had seen from last year that relates to all of these categories would be the chapter videos in The Beatles Rock Band video game. I have never played the video game before, but I’m assuming a chapter video is some sort of transition when reaching “the next level.” Is that a phrase the cool kids use these days? Anyway, MK12 created these and I respect their work immensely. It appears there are eight chapter videos for the game but “Chapter Six” is my favorite. MK12 is a motion design company located in Kansas City, Missouri. I hope you enjoy the video and the fantastic music!

It is very easy to overlook one aspect of your production when you are creating the next Emmy-winning series.

LEGAL.

Many syndication companies, networks and production houses require some form of production insurance before they will commit to working with you or distributing your show. So in order to protect yourself and your production I recommended seeking legal advice for personal, site, music, logos and product placement issues and releases.
Regarding releases, its very important to obtain personal releases from anyone who is seen on camera, especially if they are featured. The release should cover all forms of media exposure so seek legal advice when creating your release.
This same approach should be used for site releases as well.

Obviously, this legal advice comes with a price so you will have to create a line item in your budget to cover these expenses.

Another aspect of legal is insurance. This is another necessary production element to consider. Insurance will be needed for workman’s comp, equipment theft and damage and liability.

For your company’s protection you will also need “Errors and Omissions” insurance, which protects you in lawsuits where you make an honest mistake in your production. This is not cheap so you need to investigate various companies that supply this insurance. They will require allot of production and distribution information so be prepared to take some time on this.

Above is some legal information, but not limited to all of the information described herein. YOU agree that YOU will research all legal aspects of your said production. YOU also agree to license to yourself any information you gather, in perpetuity, in all media now known or shall be created in accordance to your own terms and conditions.
